The first reliable information we have about the castle dates back to 1195.
During the famous war of Molise in 1221, the castle underwent a long siege at the end of which all the lands of the count of Molise were confiscated.
The original walls of the Castle were typically defensive, very thick, and protected by five towers, one of which is decidedly larger and more imposing than the others.
What remains today of the ancient stronghold is unfortunately little compared to what could be admired of one of the fortresses considered the safest in the entire Molise area.
